Welcome to the Cottonwood Music Class

Distance Learning - Cottonwood Music Education

Hey everyone! Welcome to my page. This is where I post music resources for your child to supplement their learning at home. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at

Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+Each of these streaming services offer different resources that would be great at home. Concerts and musicals are a great way to engage kids! Check rating prior to showing, as some musicals and concerts would not be appropriate for children, but there are many that engage kids in an incredible way.

Elementary Music K-4th Grade - “Music With Lindsey” is a YouTube channel that is intended for kids 4th grade and below. Instrument Families:

Instrument family research! Can you name 3 instruments from the different instrument families? Which is your favorite?

Youtube Playlist of videos that explore different musical genres and music through the decades:

** Ask kids questions such as: What is your favorite decade of music from the video? What changes did you notice through the evolution of music?

Make a Musical Instrument at Home

(Ideas can be found here:

  • What instrumental family is it in?
  • How many different notes or sounds can it play?

Creativity with rhyme and rhythmThe idea is to write parodies of popular songs. (Rewrite the words.) The sillier the better! This activity will help kids to recognize the underlying themes of the song including rhythm and rhyme.

Ukulele Playlists - Every student from 4th-8th grade has had the opportunity to work ukulele, and I highly recommend one of these instruments for each student. Instrument prices range from $40-$60 depending on quality. Students should have the knowledge of how to navigate songs that are appropriate according to skill as well as content. As with any YouTube activity, it is best for us as parents to monitor child activity on YouTube. When used right, YouTube is an incredible tool for education. Here are some great resources for learning and practicing with the ukulele.

Ukualiens: Ukulele Club

Uke Playalongs

Andy Ramos: Ukulele

For students in the 7th and 8th grades who have an instrument at home, I will be available to teach 15 minute lessons through Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom. Contact me at 405-706-2463 to schedule a lesson. (This resource will be available until the end of the school year).
